As I stated over and over, there are tons of ways to maximize timeshare ownership to travel in luxury for significantly less than booking hotels, vacation rentals and even airbnb. Outside of complicated strategies, I have found that one of the easiest ways to maximize timeshare ownership is booking timeshares for a ski vacation.
If you ski, you know that accommodations during the ski season can be exorbitant in costs. The ski season generally lasts only about 4 months and most hotels will make the vast majority of their money during this season. Booking a week during this time can be prohibitive to most people including myself. It is not unheard of for a hotel to cost between $3,000 to $6,000 for a ski week. Booking a suite or two bedroom will likely increase this amount by even more. Luckily, there are a lot of very high quality timeshares that are located in highly desirable ski locations. Park City, Beaver Creek, Vail, Aspen, Whistler, and others are just a few examples. Generally, I would assume that most maintenance fees for timeshares run between $750 to $1500 for the year so if you can exchange your one timeshare and all of your points for a one week ski vacation that would normally cost over $3,000, you would come out significantly ahead. I am a big fan of Park City, Utah and generally take a few ski trips per year. A couple of years ago, Canyons and Park City Mountain, the two main ski locations in Park City, were bought by Vail Resorts. Last year was the first season where both resorts became connected by a Gondola ride to create the largest ski area in North America. Here is a good article on the development. Park City has many things going for it but for timeshare owners, it is actually a great destination since there are multiple timeshare properties that are ski-in/ski-out or within easy access to the lift.
INTERVAL INTERNATIONAL OPTIONS:
If you trade through Interval International, there are twelve (12) potential properties that you can trade into that is in or near Park City, Utah. Here is the list of available timeshare properties that trade through Interval International. The Cliff Club at Snowbird Snowbird, Utah Iron Blosam Lodge Snowbird, Utah The Lift Lodge Park City, Utah Marriott's MountainSide Park City, Utah Marriott's Summit Watch Park City, Utah Park Hotel Condominiums Park City, Utah Park Plaza Park City, Utah The Park Regency Park City, Utah Park Station Park City, Utah Skier's Lodge Park City, Utah Westgate Park City Resort and Spa Park City, Utah Wintergreen at Midway Midway, Utah The quality of these accommodations can differ dramatically and two of the properties are actually located in Snowbird, Utah which is a bit of a drive from Park City but located at the base of Snowbird Resort. Make sure to check out the reviews on TripAdvisor before you exchange. If you are going to plan a trip and exchange through Interval International,, I would highly recommend the Marriott Mountainside, Marriott's Summit Watch and the Westgate Park City. Marriott Mountainside and Marriott's Summit Watch are by the Park City Mountain and Westgate Park City is located at the base of the Canyons resort. These are very high quality, luxurious resorts. I have personally stayed at the Westgate and Summit Watch and both are very high quality resorts. Summitt Watch is located directly in Park City so you can walk to a ton of different restaurants, bars and activities. It is a short walk to the town lift where you can get to the base of Park City Mountain. RCI OPTIONS: If you trade through RCI, there are twenty (20) potential properties that you can trade into that is in or near Park City, Utah. As you can see in the list below, there are a few properties that overlap and trade through both RCI and Interval International. Circle J Club at Jeremy Ranch (#0781) Park City, UT Grand Summit Hotel - The Canyons (#5347) Park City, UT 84098 Hilton Grand Vacations Club at Sunrise Lodge (#D412) Park City, UT 84098 Iron Blosam Lodge @ Snowbird Ski & Summer Resort (#0044) Snowbird, UT 84092 Lift Lodge Park City (#0095) Park City, UT 84060 Park Avenue Condominiums (#0600) Park City, UT 84060 Park Hotel Condominiums (#0811) Park City, UT 84060 Park Plaza (#2477) Park City, UT 84060 Raintree at Park Plaza Park City (#8571) Park City, UT 84060 Raintree's The Miners Club Park City (#7812) Park City, UT 84098 Royal Holiday - Park Plaza (#D786) Park City, UT 84060 Sapphire Resorts @ Park Regency (#7769) Park City, UT 84060 Silverado Lodge at The Canyons (#R906) Park City, UT 84098 Skiers Lodge (#5099) Park City, UT 84060 Sundial Lodge @ The Canyons (#R907) Park City, UT 84098 The Cliff Club at Snowbird (#4068) Snowbird, UT 84092 The Park Regency (#2489) Park City, UT 84060 Waldorf Astoria Park City (#D597) Park City, UT 84098 Worldmark Park City Park City, UT 84098 Wyndham Park City Park City, UT 84098 As with Interval, the quality of accommodations offered through RCI will vary widely and it is interesting to see that ability to book the Waldorf Astoria in Park City. Again, make sure to check out the reviews on TripAdvisor before you exchange. Out of these options, I would highly recommend the Grand Summit Hotel - The Canyons, Hilton Grand Vacations Club at Sunrise Lodge, Silverado Lodge at The Canyons, Sundial Lodge @ The Canyons, Wyndham Park City and obviously the Waldorf Astoria Park City. All of these properties are basically ski-in/ski-out properties that are located at the base of the Canyons. Park City is a fantastic ski destination the offers great trails for all skier levels. The ability to book or exchange into this amount of timeshares makes this a fantastic choice for timeshare owners. As stated, booking hotels for ski weeks is extremely expensive and makes ski trips available for only a select few. The availability of over 20 different timeshares in Park City makes exchanges potentially more available. I have personally exchanged into the Westgate Park City for Christmas week. It is doable but you need to plan ahead, way ahead! Since the exchange companies generally book a year in advance or even further if you know the secret trick, getting booked into a ski week for the 2016-2017 season will be very difficult. However, if you are interested in getting a prime ski week for next season, put in a request now and be diligent about looking for opportunities. Ski weeks are an easy way to justify timeshare ownership even if you only travel for one week per year. The maintenance fees for the timeshare will almost always be lower than booking a week directly. |
